Puppy Food Australia | Dry, Wet, Raw & Natural
Puppy food is formulated for growth, with more energy, protein and carefully balanced calcium and phosphorus than adult dog food. Choose a recipe labelled for growth or all life stages, matched to your puppy's expected adult size, and feed it until they reach adulthood.
What should you look for in puppy food?
- A growth or all-life-stages statement on the label.
- Breed-size formulas: large-breed puppy food controls energy and calcium to support steady growth.
- DHA, an omega-3 that supports brain and eye development.
- Kibble size that suits your puppy's mouth.
How often should a puppy eat?

Most small and medium breeds move to adult food around 12 months; large and giant breeds often stay on puppy food until 12–18 months. Then switch to adult dog food over 7–10 days. Ask your vet if your puppy has ongoing diarrhoea, vomiting or isn't gaining weight.

Frequently asked questions
When should I switch my puppy to adult food?
Usually around 12 months for small and medium breeds and 12–18 months for large breeds. Your vet can advise based on your puppy's growth.
How much should I feed my puppy?
Start with the feeding guide on the pack for your puppy's age and expected adult weight, then adjust so they stay lean with a visible waist.
Can puppies eat raw food?
Yes, if it is a complete and balanced raw diet formulated for growth. Handle raw food hygienically and ask your vet for advice for large-breed puppies.
Is grain-free food OK for puppies?
Grain-free puppy foods can be complete and balanced. Choose a recipe labelled for growth and discuss any concerns with your vet.
